Nancy O'Dell's debut position in the broadcasting industry was as a reporter/anchor for WPDE-TV Myrtle Beach South Carolina. In later years, she was employed by WCBD as anchor for the morning show and as a crime reporter. While in Charleston O'Dell's reporting on the lenient police approach to DUI cases led to the launch of a State Law Enforcement Division investigation that led to State authorities issuing a more stringent directive regarding these situations. Ms. O'Dell received recognition from her colleagues at the Associated Press with the Best Report of the Year award for all media in South Carolina. O'Dell's work in Charleston was the reason she joined as co-anchor and investigative reporter and anchor for NBC's Miami WTVJ-TV.
